The Career Nursing Academy — Program Details
The Career Nursing Academy program consists of a total of 122 hours as follows.
54 classroom instruction hours which include:
- 5 1/2 hours of in-classroom orientation as the first session of the course
- 38 hours of classroom instruction
- 5 1/2 hours CPR course as a class session
- 5 hour review class prior to the start of clinicals
20 hours are dedicated to skills lab instruction
48 hours are clinical hours
Review sessions to prepare for the NNAAP (National Nurse Aide Assessment Program) certification examination will be held approximately one week prior to the NNAAP exam. Attendance at the review sessions is not mandatory, but is highly recommended. The review/practice sessions prior to the certification exams are in addition to the 122 course hours and are at no cost to the student.
The principle objective of the Career Nursing Academy is to provide education and training to capable students who are eager to enter an allied health career with a future, such as nurse aides, but who have not had an opportunity previously to secure such training. The major outcome goal of the program is to prepare graduates to take the NNAAP examination and successfully pass that certification examination.
Four course times are available:
- Saturdays and Sundays from 12-6:15 PM which enables working participants to continue work during the weekdays.
- Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 AM to 3:45 PM
- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 AM to 3:45 PM
- Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 to 3:45 PM
The Certified Nurse Aide Course is approximately 6 weeks in length, with the clinical experiences occurring during the last days of the course. The cost of the course is $1,195 and includes the uniform, background check and a drug screen, the P.P.D., CPR training, and the book. Credit cards are accepted and payment plans are available.
The course is taught totally in English. However, the primary instructor is bilingual (English/Spanish), thus enabling the instant translation of presented course materials and making it possible for English as a second language students to more readily learn the material.
The textbook book is Hartman’s Nursing Assistant Care, 5th Edition. This book is available in both English and Spanish. All students receive the textbook.
The Career Nursing Academy is an in-facility testing site for the NNAAP certification examination, thereby making it possible for students to take the exam right at the Career Nursing Academy location.
The Career Nursing Academy course certificate of completion is awarded to students at the successful completion of the 122 hour Virginia Board of Nursing approved program.
